California Education Learning Lab hosted a discussion with leading scholars and educators on the role college Calculus plays in achieving racial and gender equity in STEM, and how educators and policymakers can support student success in STEM pathways. Facilitated by Rob Shorette of Learning Lab and Melodie Baker of Just Equations, the session featured six strategies highlighted in the Just Equations-Learning Lab report, Charting a New Course: Investigating Barriers on the Calculus Pathway to STEM: Course coordination, redesigning the pathway to Calculus, contextualizing Calculus, resequencing course content, active learning, and professional development. Speakers were, from left: Omayra Ortega (Sonoma State University), Pamela Burdman (Just Equations), Nathan Alexander (Morehouse College), Francesca Henderson (Just Equations), and Christopher Jett (University of West Georgia).
