Amylene Cabrera is a mathematics educator with four years of experience teaching Math Essentials, Integrated Math 1, Introduction to Data Science, and AP Statistics at Fallbrook High School in Fallbrook, Calif. She is a graduate of the University of California, Irvine, where she received a Bachelor of Science in mathematics with a secondary teaching credential as a part of the CalTeach Credential Program. Through CalTeach, she has done 750-plus hours of fieldwork in various public school classrooms in Orange County, including Davis Magnet Elementary School, TeWinkle Middle School, and Santa Ana High School. She has worked with teachers at multiple levels designing lesson plans that emphasize conceptual learning and equity. She tutored mathematics and language arts at Kumon in Chula Vista and Irvine. In addition, she was a mentor and learning assistant for UC Irvine’s Math CEO, an outreach program for middle school students in Santa Ana. Currently, Cabrera works for the program as a research assistant, developing educational materials about inquiry, scaffolding, community building, cultural responsiveness, engagement, and growth mindset. She is passionate about learning and teaching mathematics, making mistakes and learning to fix them, and striving to make education accessible and equitable for all.
