Arlene Crum

Secondary Mathematics Pathways Specialist

Arlene Crum is the director of mathematics at the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction in Washington state. She holds a Bachelor of Science in secondary mathematics education, a Master of Education in administration and supervision, and a principal’s certification for K–12 schools. She has experience teaching and learning in four states from coast to coast, and values her current role for the opportunity to elevate the voices of diverse perspectives for students, teachers, and schools. Her current work focuses on mathematics pathways for students that incorporate a growth mindset, relevant mathematics, and valuable reasoning skills to make math more accessible for all. Crum joined the Association of State Supervisors of Mathematics in 2018. She says that her continuing membership and recent collaborations to provide Wednesday Webinars for the membership have provided her with valuable relationships and numerous opportunities for new learning.
