Karen Mayfield-Ingram is the project director of the Oakland Urban Teacher Residency Program. She also is a program coordinator for the Center for Equity and Excellence at the Lawrence Hall of Science at the University of California - Berkeley and Associate Director of the Bay Area Math Project. Ms. Mayfield-Ingram has 15 years of teaching experience and has conducted numerous workshops and given keynote addresses on mathematics and equity, and transitioning to the Common Core State Standards in Mathematics (CCSS-M) at the state and national level. She is the co-author of several books about teaching, including Rethinking K-8 Mathematics Teaching: Equity-Based Practices to Strengthen Children’s Mathematics Learning and Identity published by the National Council ofTeachers of Mathematics. Her work focuses on equitable mathematics teaching and learning, teacher education and parent involvement with a primary goal of strengthening access and advancement in mathematics education for historically marginalized youth.
