Marcelo Almora Rios

Research Fellow
,
Just Equations

Marcelo is a graduate student and course instructor at the University of Montana in the Department of Mathematics. He has supported students in mathematics in many roles, including as a math-specialist for SKIES Learn—a Los Angeles-based EdTech startup focused on improving student success in introductory algebra courses in LA public schools. Marcelo’s research interests lie at the intersection of mathematics education, psychology, and philosophy. His dissertation research explores the concept of what he (affectionately) calls mathematical wellbeing, a construct related to one’s measure of subjective wellbeing regarding their own mathematical practice and associated, school-related effects. Marcelo received his B.S. in Mathematics from Harvey Mudd College. He is a first-generation, Peruvian-born American college student and recipient of the 2020 Latinos in Technology scholarship. He is a strong advocate of poetry, mathematics learning, and enjoys the challenge of baking for others. Marcelo is the 2022 Summer Research Fellow for Just Equations.
