Sarah S. Adams earned her master’s and doctoral degrees in mathematics at Cornell University, where she was also a member of the Wireless Intelligent Systems Laboratory in the Electrical and Computer Engineering program. She has been a faculty member at Olin College, including serving as associate dean for faculty affairs and development, since its opening in 2002. Previously, she conducted research at the Institute for Defense Analyses’ Center for Communications Research and the National Security Agency. Adams has been involved with the Mathematical Association of America’s Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching) professional development program and has served on national committees involving undergraduate programs and research. She has received numerous grants for technical research, mentoring undergraduate researchers, and curricular innovations. Over time, Adams’ externally facing work has shifted from technical research to K–12 outreach initiatives in classrooms and out-of-school programs, creating professional development programs for teachers, and serving on the board of directors for a K–8 school.
