Tamira Palmetto is a certified rehabilitation counselor and full-time faculty member at Antelope Valley College (AVC). She served as the counseling co-chair for AVC's Honors Transfer Alliance Program for three years, served as both the Academic Senate vice president and president in one academic year (it was an exciting year), and is currently serving as one of two counseling department chairs. Palmetto is a product of the community college system and holds a bachelor's degree in psychology with a biology minor and a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling from the State University of New York at Albany. Palmetto attended three community colleges, two in her home state of California and one in New York, before earning her associate degree in liberal arts. She is passionate about helping students find their way through the higher education system and supporting them as they work to accomplish their academic and professional goals. She started her career in higher education at SUNY Albany's counseling center and transitioned to the community college system in 2009 when she was hired by Antelope Valley College to work with Basic Skills students. She now serves a diverse student population in both general counseling and the Office for Students With Disabilities.
