Debates over math education often focus on issues such as curriculum and course sequences. Those issues matter, but the divisive discussions often obscure the importance of something more fundamental: good teaching. Though there is little dispute about the value of good teaching, defining and cultivating it has been an elusive goal. What are the policies and practices that contribute to rigorous math learning? How can the benefits of good teaching reach those students who have traditionally been excluded from opportunities to advance in mathematics? And how can we make teaching more compelling for a diverse generation of teachers and students? Please join this keynote session to hear perspectives from research, and from college and high school classrooms, that examined how to elevate math teaching for the next generation of students.
