Unlocking Potential: Broadening Access to STEM for Underserved Students

In light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision to ban race-conscious admissions policies, colleges and universities must evaluate how their current math requirements for admission may exclude underrepresented students. Experts discussed promising approaches to building diverse student bodies and ensuring college opportunity for aspiring STEM students who lacked access to calculus in high school. By sharing effective strategies, this session identified how admissions offices and STEM departments can collaborate to expand paths to STEM that support students’ interests and enable students to thrive academically in their career of choice.
